Haylee grinned as she peered out her window at the orange glow slowly rising. One of her favorite parts of her cabin was the amount of windows and sunlights. With the crisp morning air blowing into her room from the open window, she quickly flitted into her closet to dress. Hm, I wonder if the strawberries are ripe by now she mused to herself, hastily pulling a brush through her short hair. None of the other girls seemed to understand why Haylee enjoyed keeping her hair cut in such a short, pixie-like style. She did not bother elaborating her reasons other than it made her feel free.
Making her way towards the strawberry fields, Haylee could hear a couple of the guys give her a playful wolf whistle. Turning around, she stuck her tongue out at them before yelling out, "You guys are just lucky I'm in a good mood or I would go over there and beat you up!" She heard their laughter mixing with her own as she continued the trek to the fields. Before long, the bright red fruits came into view and Haylee could not help the grin that stretched across her face. She slowly wandered through the rows of strawberries, running her hands softly over each little fruit that was carefully covered by droplets of dew.
If only I had someone to share this place with, she sighed, searching for her favorite spot. Although Haylee normally hated being alone, the strawberry fields were somewhere she could rest for a moment and gather her thoughts. The number one thought plaguing her mind at the moment was the Games. A small shudder ran through her body as she carefully sat down amongst the ripening berries. While she loved a challenge, the Games were something she certainly did not look forward to. Suddenly, the snapping of a twig caught her attention and Haylee glanced up, curious as to who else would be wandering in this area so early.

"Hello." Kaylee said, shielding her gray eyes against the rising sun. She was an early riser, most definitely. Everything seemed so new in the morning and Kaylee didn't want to miss it. Her brown, curly hair was pulled back in a long ponytail. "Oh, sorry if I startled you." She said. "I'm Kaylee, Daughter of Nike." She looked at the other other girl, wondering if she was being to talkative for this early in the morning.

"Hello. Oh sorry if I startled you, I'm Kaylee, daughter of Nike," came a voice and Haylee's eyes finally landed on a girl just a few steps away from her. Her eyes immediately lit up and she gave the girl, Kaylee, a warm smile. "Oh, don't worry about it! I'm just not used to people being early risers like me. I'm Haylee, daughter of Hermes!" she explained, introducing herself at the same time with the best small curtsy she could manage from the ground. Haylee was far from shy and quickly pushed herself up and held out her hand with a grin. Hm, I hope I don't freak her out or anything, but she quickly pushed the thought away. Haylee was not one to worry, especially not when it came to making friends. "So what brings you out here?"

Kaylee shook her hand. "Before I came here me and my dad used to get up early every morning and walk or run. Just something special we did together, and now that I'm here, I just couldn't give up the tradition." She shrugged. She really missed her dad, but at least she got to see him more than some of the other campers. One of the pluses about being a child of a minor god, monsters didn't want to kill you as much as most demigods. "And yourself?" She asked.

Hearing Kaylee talking about her father, Haylee immediately knew that she missed him. Pausing awkwardly, she fumbled for something to say.
"Oh that's cool." Haylee immediately mentally slapped herself, That's cool? Really, that's the best I could come up with? She desperately wanted to be able to sympathize with the other girl, but no matter how hard she tried, Haylee could not understand the bond between Kaylee and her father.
The only home Haylee ever knew was Camp Half Blood and her fellow demigods were the only family she loved. Jumping at the opportunity to change the subject, Haylee gave a warm smile and shrug. "This has just become my sort of quiet place. Trust me, I hate not being with everyone else most of the time, but sometimes its nice to have a little quiet to mull things over. Plus, free strawberries," she explained with a giggle before quickly snatching up a nearby strawberry and popping into her mouth.

Kaylee sat down. "I don't blame you for wanting to be out here, away from everything. Camp is different now." The camp was crazy at times, now worse than before. She plucked a strawberry off of it's stem. She examined it closely, plucking off the remaining stem and leaves, before dropping it into her mouth. "Of course, I haven't been here as long as most people here, but still, it's changing. I can sense it, sort of." She examined her hands with melancholy interest.

Haylee nodded, immediately knowing what Kaylee was referring to.
It's because of the Games, she thought with a shudder. Haylee quickly pushed the strawberries away as her appetite faded into anxiety that clenched and twisted her stomach. Glancing at the sky, Haylee wondered who would be chosen for the Games. Shaking her head, she turned back to Kaylee with a sad smile, "I've been here as long as I can remember and it's changing. I-I miss the way things used to be. Everyone and everything is on edge," she murmured, glancing at the strawberry fields that were only half as successful as last year. Sighing, Haylee leaned back, pressing her hands into the cool soil.
